The Green Island Holiday Trust was founded in 1991 by Jo Davies on Green Island in Poole Harbour from where it has taken its name. For 15 years the holidays were held in a two room A-frame house with limited facilities. Imagine the magic of going to a small island for a week – a lot of adventures were enjoyed by many people over that time.
In 2002 Jo received an MBE from the Queen for her dedication to this charity. In 2005 the Trustees decided to relocate the holidays to Holton Lee, which has fully accessible facilities for people with disabilities and wonderful grounds to explore.
For 2021 we are relocating to Ellwood Cottages in the hamlet of Woolland near Blandford.
The charity is registered with the Charity Commissioners, number 1003975, and is run by a Board of Trustees with wide ranging skills and an appointed Coordinator.
From the outset the charity has been very well supported financially by local business and individual Trust funds, but our main asset has been our volunteers. Over the years we have had many volunteers who have returned year after year to give a week of their time.
